Patel 1 Professor Davis Expository Writing 101 Final Draft #3 13 October 2013 Showing Humanness is Human Nature Humans are emotional and complex beings who thrive by interacting with their surroundings . Nowadays, surroundings do not just include animals and other lively beings; they include the inanimate as well . When inanimate and interactive technology such as robots come into play, humans tend display signs of humanness because forming interactions with their surroundings is such an integral part of human nature . People may perceive creating a connection with technology as naive or silly, but in “Alone Together: Why We Expect More from Technology and Less from Each Other,” the author Sherry Turkle indirectly explains why this phenomenon occurs through examples of exchanges between technology and people of a variety of ages .Because it is human nature to respect, show love and care, and make connections with others, intelligent people tend to project “humanness” onto robots . Unlike any other life form on Earth, humans value their morals and ethics as well as the pillars of characters--one of which is respect of people and things .We often live by the quote “treat others the way you would like to be treated;” this respects also pertains to others’ ideas because we enjoy people’s companies and showing respect increases the chances of having a pleasant relationship .
